Today was a special day as we left Albany but before departing one more stop at Woolies for bacon, butter, prunes and birthday candles. I didn't manage to get a cake here so I thought we would be able to pick one up in Denmark. Today was Daniel's birthday and dinner was planned. Denmark was only about 50 kilometres west of Albany. We arrived here about 10.30 in the morning and went to have a look around the sceninc town. It was very pretty nestled along the River and close to the Beach. We bought a cake which would be the Birthday cake. We thought we'd be responsible so we picked a Carrot Cake since we both thought that we'd actually put on weight since we started our trip. Even though we were getting around on our bikes I was certain that I was heavier, I just had to look at my stomach and I could confirm that fact!
Daniel called Ania and Andrzej to thank them for their birthday wishes and that we'd missed their phone call as we were hooking the van up and didn't get the call. As we arrived at our Campsite, Parry Beach, we decied that we would stay 2 nights. It was just such a beautiful spot and wanted to stay longer but couldn't. That night as we enjoyed a couple of Emu's (Western Australian Brew) we made dinner and just enjoyed the evening. Daniel got his first text message for his birthday from Szymon and Mel and then soon after Monika and Matt sent through theirs. A carrot cake, a few candles and we called Daniel's twin brother, Marek, and wished him a happy birthday too! Such a great night that when Daniel got up next morning he said he wanted it to be his birthday everyday! So cute I thought he was more like a five year old child rather than a 55 year old man!Ha ha!
When in Esperance Carol and Michael, friends along the way said that when in Denmark we should go and see William Bay. This we did today and it was magnificent. We went to Green's Pool and the beach was sheltered from the open ocean by huge rocks and the water was perfect for swimming. Calm and inviting. We headed off on a dirt road that took us to the other end of the Bay, I think it was Waterfall Beach. Here Daniel decided to fish for about an hour. I read on a rock face by the waters edge before heading off on a walk along the rocks edge to see what the beach was like on the other side. Again I can only use the best words to highlight what I saw. Pristine beaches with white sands and transluscent waters. I saw crabs hiding in between rocks, and a waterfall from the top of the hillside making its way into the sea.
After fishing photo shots taken, the temperature had risen to 24 degrees. The return journey landed us at the Icecreamery (thank you Carol and Michael for this one too!). My pick was a scoop of Rose and Almond and a second scoop of Honey and Ginger. Daniel's choice was Hazelnut and Passionfruit. Needless to say that this was the best icecream I had ever had. Let's just say that it was a bargain compared to the $12 we spent for 2 coffees at Coober Pedy! The other side of the road we had also made a stop at Denmark's Toffee Place but here we bought 2 bottles cider, Apple and Pear was one and the other was Apple and Ginger. Into the fridge when we returned to be consumed at a later date.
Surprise again when we got a message from Mum wishing Daniel happy birthday and a call from Beata and the office where they all sang out loud 'Happy Birthday'.....so he did get another day for his birthday! What a lucky boy! I took Daniel's birthday shot with my new phone so I didn't get to put one up on the blog!!
Time for his guitar practice under the eaves of the Peppermint trees, some writing on our blog before settling in for the night and a move on tomorrow in the direction of Margaret River.
