Punsand Bay to Tip of Cape York.

Foreshore view from Seisia Campsite
We were pleasantly surprised on arriving at Punsand Bay to stay at the resort.  We had an unpowered site, but still managed to charge up the camera, video camera including the laptop once I hooked into power!  This was  real wilderness out here, only 14 kilometres from the farmost northern tip of Australia.

Tents pitched at Seisia
Campsites pitched for the night Les decided that we were going to have Salmon Pasta for dinner but this was to be a cooking segment filmed in Cape York.  She made our chefs hats which brought a laugh from the chaps indeed.  Needless to say that we did film this segment on video, took some more pics with the result that dinner was very yummy!

Later that evening we vetured to the Punsand Bay's restaurant for an alcoholic beverage or two.  Seated at the table with a bottle of white we played cards for about an hour before deciding to head back to camp and call it a night.

Cape Yorkers have finally reached the Tip of Australia

I made friends with the local Bush turkeys, who came for a feed at dinner including breakfast.  Also we acquired  Wilson, one of the grounds' dogs.  He was very old, suffering with some arthritis.  He was very gentle and friendly following us around a lot.  I made sure that he didn't go hungry so I opened a can of hearty stew which I'm sure he appreciated.

As the weather up top here was very warm, the water so inviting yet we couldn't go in because of crocs we opted to swim in the pool for the couple of days we were here, which was a great way to cool down.

Next morning the trip to the tip came, by 9.00am we were on the road to the tip of Cape York.  The road was a 4 wheel drive road of red sand, through beautiful lush dense tropical rainforest.  Once we'd parked the cars we made our way round to the Tip's point via the sandy beach, with tide out at that stage.

Reaching the Tip was an almost overwhelming feelling.  There were a few other visitors besides us, so photos were able to be take of all of us together.  Some great pics for all of us to share that memorable ocassion on the 1st September, 2011 which we'll always remember!

The view from the rugged rocky hilltop was sensational as we overlooked the sea, the rushing water of the channel between the mainland and not too distant island.  We were 3020 kilometres from Melbourne at the top end of the northernmost tip of  Australia.  The beautiful colours of the sea were pale blue, the stretch of the sandy beach with its beautiful mangroves,
palm trees was brilliant.  We'd done it.  We'd finally made it to the top after 8 months on the road since leaving home in Melbourne in January.  Daniel and I really felt this sensation of wonderful achievement at this point, something truly amazing that we'd dreamed about almost 30 years ago and here we were today in real life!

Yeah!  We made it!

Melbourne from the Tip is 3020 kilometres in a straight line!

Jubilation! Right...now let's celebrate!!!

Bye from Cape York...thanks for the memories!!
