Adelaide Zoo and Port Pirie, South Australia.

We left Wallaroo and headed to Port Wakefield only for one night as a stopover.  I wanted to go to see the Adelaide Zoo.  We'd been in Adelaide the previous year and missed out going to the zoo then and to miss out again I would have been really disappointed.  Arrived just outside the zoo parking with 4 hours waiting just for us along the Torrens River Catchment such a beautiful picturesque scene that one could only call an idyllic view in a City Centre.

First stop was to see the Pandas on loan from China.  Their enclosure was majestic, with lots of bamboo for their primary food source surrounding the area.  Each of the pandas had their own glassed home.  They were gorgeous as were the Red Pandas.  We moved on through the Aviary, the Monkey enclosures, the Tigers, the Seals, the Lions, more aviaries, crocks, huge turtles, gorgeous Meerkats, Giraffes, Hippos and cheeky Beavers.  The zoo's landscape was beautiful, focussing on an almost tropical freedom-like atmosphere, especially for the monkeys.  A great three hours spent here before heading into Rundle Mall for a bite of lunch, coffee and the return trip home.

The next day we headed up out to Port Pirie arriving at the Foreshore Caravan Park. Place set up we rode into town on the bikes to explore the surroundings.  Obviously shopping was also on the list for supplies which in my case included a new pair of shoes and the justification was that I didn't bring any heels with me in the event that we went out somewhere for the evening! Ha Ha!

Port Pirie's Information Centre was full of it...ie.Information! With this in hand we made our way on a 4 wheel drive trip, Bridle Track, taking in some beautiful views from the Southern end of the Flinders Ranges across to Port Pirie and Port Germein.  Coleby Hill Drive took us through to the back of Laura and the Wirrabarra Forest.  Port Germein was about 20 kilometres north of Port Pirie, but worth visiting as it has the longest wooden jetty in Australia, 1.5 kilometres and when the tide was out you had to walk that distance to get to the water.  Great crabbing place for Blue Swimmers!  On the last night Daniel went crabbing at Port Pirie arriving home with lunch for the next day once we'd set up camp at Mt.Remarkable National Park.
