Mt Remarkable National Park, Southern Flinders Ranges, SA.

We have our packing and setting up of the van finely tuned.  The map was consulted and the next desitnation was Mt Remarkable National Park at the southern end of the Flinders Ranges.  We took off from Port Pirie around 9.00am and headed North East through Crystal Brook before asking for directions to get us through to Laura, Melrose,Wilmington and Horrocks Pass before realising that we had taken the scenic route, another 150 kilometres around the back of the Ranges instead of a 45 kilometre drive straight up the A1 from Port Germein.  Always remember that you should read the small print, even if it is in the Visitors Information booklet!

With camp set up and temperatures up at 30 Celsius it was just time for a dip. No water however, so we headed back to Port Germein , 24 kilometres and walked along the jetty to get to the water where the tide was still out at least another kilometre.  It was a slow walk and you had to be careful so as not to trip over the boards.  Clambered down the stairs and headed for submersion.  What a relief to cool down.  The water was still shallow and therefore quite warm but still it was worth it.  Driving through the campsite I saw the biggest Iguana I had ever seen in real life.  I told Daniel to wind down the window and take a photo of it...from his seat of course...he said he was too scared! Ha! So I had to get out my side walk up close enough to take the shot! Husbands...don't you just love 'em???
Next day we headed off for our rugged walk through the valley up to Sugar Gum lookout.  We started early in the morning to be back  before the heat of the day.  Camera in hand and photos of kangaroos, emus, spiders and the landscape captured for memories. The summit was reached and then the return walk.  Home again and time for a cold pale ale or two!
