Albany, Western Australia.

We got to Albany around 10:00 in the morning.  The weather was still warm as we made our way into the Town centre and Visitors Information Centre.  With information in hand we headed off to Emu Point caravan park for two nights.  Routine kicked in and I went off to do the laundry before we headed out into town.  We'd been up since 6:00 in the morning and it was now around 2:00 as we got into town and both were a little hungry so we stopped in at the local bakery and had a pie each and a coffee.  Supplies bought, fridge stocked and Daniel went to the beach to drop his line.

The next day brought with it an overcast day but we'd planned to do some sightseeing and headed off to do the coastal Marine Route of Albany.  We stopped at Middleton beach before heading up the coastal scenic route along the harbour.  This was an awesome view.  The Princess Royal Harbour was magnificent.  It is famous in history, in particular, as the last shipping port for Soldiers and Navy personnel that headed out to Gallipoli in the Great War of 1914 to 1918.  We went to visit Mt Clarence where there is a magnificent statue of tow soldiers and their horses that actually came back and was reconstruced from Syria as part of the War Memorial in Albany.  We travelled along the Avenue of Honour on the way and there were so many names on plaques against trees that really makes you think about tragedy that war bestows.

Next stop was the Fortress at Mt Clarence as the protection point for shipping vessels coming into the Harbour. From there we headed into the city where we stopped at a Music Shop and Daniel looked at Classical Guitars since he took up playing on this trip and for me he bought a harmonica! How's that for putting something in my mouth to stop me from talking!! So now we both practice music on this trip.  A new chapter in our lives!

We drove around Albany, took in some lovely views, headed for the Anzac Peace Park where we had lunch before heading out to the local distillery. Here we tried Albany produced Award winning in the World Single Malt Whisky.  Let's just say that it was 60 per cent proof, really hit the stomach with the intense heat immediately but it had a muscat finish.  Aged in Oak barrels before being put into a Muscat Barrel before being poured into bottels.  At $250 a bottle we could only afford the nip!

Late afternoon we'd done enough driving and we had to get back to re-pack the car.  I like to be organised so Daniel pulled everything from the car, cleaned it up before replacing everything in a more orderly format.  Job done and then I concentrated on updating my new Telstra phone, which Daniel bought in Esperance, that would give us more coverage on our trip than the Optus had so far not done.  I still kept my number so that was good too.
That night we had Black Bean stir fry beef with broccoli, red capsicum and rice.  The movie of the night was Merlin the Magician.  The next day would see us travel on to Denmark.
